Japan Society
I went there today to see: Serizawa: Master of Japanese Textile Design He used stencil-dyeing techniques on screens, kimonos, book covers, and magazine designs. The combination of the natural beauty of his materials—cotton, silk, hemp, and other fibers, with the vibrant palette of dyes was spectacular. Its interesting that most traditional Japanese crafts use a subtle palette, whereas here the...

Japanese Design Principles
The Zen principles of Aesthetics are derived from the Buddhism beliefs of Anicca or Impermanence where “everything, without exception, is constantly in flux, even planets, stars and gods”. (Wikipedia) THE PRINCIPLES: FUKINSEI (imbalanced) Asymmetry, odd numbers, irregularity, unevenness, imbalance is used as a denial of perfection as perfection and symmetry does not occur in nature. KANSO...

Made My Day
I get my hair cut by Joey Pauline, hairdresser by day, crossdresser by night. Drag queen, actually. I’ve seen him perform. Its pretty spectacular. But anyway, he works at a glam-punk salon on the Lower East Side called Salon Bordello. It has black walls, red floors, and gold accents like mirror frames and outlet covers. Thats pretty spectacular too. While I was waiting for him to cut my...

Today at Lucien, a french bistro on the lower east side, I finished my notebook. On average, I go through one a semester. I’m still mourning the loss of my previous one, but as I search for it, I will start another one. Also, this has been my breakfast the past 3 days: Greek yogurt with honey and walnuts. Mmm. This was only included because they were next to each other in Photobooth....

this was sent to me by my mother.
“Men are like a fine wine. They start out as grapes, and it’s up to women to stomp the shit out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.”

Everything is Three →
I could argue with this article. Love triangles are strained. Three-way friendships are strained. Three is often a source of jealousy. Two is often times very balanced because of the polarity of it, but it equalizes itself. One is also balanced. Because there is nothing to challenge it, and that is all there is.

Hunter Mountain Adventures
My apologies in advance for the poor quality photos, they are from my phone. My stepdad and I took a day trip to go ski at Hunter Mountain today. It was insanely foggy this “morning,” if 4 am can be called “morning.” It was beautiful though, and still dark, and not as cold as the past few days. After a long bus ride with terrible, and I mean terrible loud music, I was a...

Photoshop Powerpoints -> Thoughts of Suicide
My grandma forwards me awful powerpoint collections of “beautiful photographs.” Most look like this: That’s from the most recent one she sent me. These two made me laugh though: FLAME CAT. DEMONIC SEAGULLS AND UNFORTUNATE ROCK-CLIMBING VICTIM.

Christopher Locke
“Artist Christopher Locke has made ‘modern fossils’ by hand, everything from cassettes and floppy disks to Nintendo and joysticks. They represent pieces of modern technology that almost has become “extinct” in these days because of improved technology.” “These are modern fossils. They are made from actual archaic technology that was once cutting-edge. Most of these examples were...

sorting through bookmarked pages
Back In Iceland, I believe in the town of Seydisfjordur, my parents and I were eating dinner in the only open wifi cafe ( I almost just wrote cage) after a dip in the town’s pool. The cafe had a bookshelf! So of course while we were waiting for the best lamb ever, I headed over there and discovered a plethora of wonderful editioned artists books. I wrote down the name of one of them and...

Fuckin' Fantastic Article from Gourmet Magazine
“You’re the motherfucker in front,” said Bianco, “controlling the fuckin’ elements, putting the shit in and out of the oven.” Brandon and I nodded our heads slowly at this zenlike pronouncement. Atlantic-Pacific
Ah, one of the delights of being a New Yorker is being given the chance to prove just how well you know your way around it. Today on my way home from a lovely evening with Sakura, a girl got on the R train at Prince Street and asked if it went to Atlantic ave. I said “yes” and went back to reading. A very quick train of thought along the lines of “well, actually, it technically...

My Stepdad's Paramount Phrases
I was telling my stepdad about my boyfriend, and I mentioned that he really liked playing Risk, (which my stepdad loves as well) to which he responded- I choose to admire that quality. ??!?!?!??!!!! Officially my new response to everything. I think I should be wearing a crown and some red velvet while I’m at it.

Ode to the Garden of Eatin
So, I just watched Julie & Julia with my mom after a long day of snow-full traveling through the east coast. Jury duty awaits bright and early tomorrow morning, but I want to take the time to send a thank you to a dear place. That place would be the Garden of Eden on 23rd Street. I think that was where I was first entranced by food, gourmet food at that. I used to walk there from school on my...
